L is for Life

"Life is like a coin. You can spend it any way you wish, but you only spend it once"- Lillian Dickson

You always hear about how you shouldn't take the food that is on the table, or the clothes on your back, or the roof over our heads for granted. We are always told that we are very lucky to have these, and this is true. I always feel very privileged to have these things, especially knowing that there are so many people out there, in the world that don't have what we would call "basic" needs. However, what about life. Its not that often that we hear "don't take life for granted". I think that life is the thing that we take for granted more than anything else that we have.

Well obviously life is important, without it we wouldn't be here. However what makes life so special is that we only get one. Its not like the roof over your head- you can get a new house anytime, but life is different. You can't just go out and buy a new one. When you think about it you only get a lifetime to do everything that you want, to make all your dreams come true. A lifetime may seem like a lot now, but its not really.

Memories. When you think about it when your life is over you can only take your memories and experiences with you. We, as people always want more stuff. However you can't take your Ipod or whatever with you. So what memories would you like to have when your lifetime is over? Well I would like a lot of happy memories that would make me laugh and smile when I looked back on them. I would also love to travel a lot, experience the world. I think it would be amazing to have memories of good things happening in the world during my lifetime. Whether it is world peace, the end of world hunger or global warming... the possiblities are endless!

Life. Four letters. One big meaning. It is the one thing that everyone in the world has. However all these people only have one life. Some spend it wisely, other people don't. It is the thing that everyone takes for granted. Even though I said that a lifetime isn't very long you can do a lot in your lifetime.

Life Lesson: Memories are the only things that can live forever, they are the things that make life so amzing.

G is for Glass half full

Is the glass half empty or half full? Have you ever heard that expression before? Well if you haven't it means that if you are a negative person you would look a a glass of water that was exactly half full and say that it was half empty. However if you are a positive person you would look at the same glass of water and say that it was half full. So what would you say? I would say that it was half full because I like to be positive.

Being positive or negative is part of your personality, just like being nice or shy or funny etc. I think it is very important to try to be as positive as possible. Why? Well could you imagine how much better the world would be if everyone was positive? I think that the world would be a lot better! Being positive is a lot better for yourself too! Did you know that being positive motivates you to eat healthy and be active? Which is obviosly good for your health!

But what exactly does being positive mean? Well in the dictionary it says that being positive is: a disposition or tendency to look on the more favorable side of events or conditions and to expect the most favorable outcome. So basically you just have to expect good things to happen? Yes, but I think that that is only one part of it. To be a positive person you have to believe this all the time, even when your sad and you have that feeling that nothing will ever get better, you have to put a smile on your face and believe that everything will get better. Its pretty much impossible to believe that all the time and probably no one has ever done it. However the best thing that we can do is to smile and try to be the most positive person you can be. Then the world will be a much happier place!

Life Lesson: Make sure your glass is always half full, and remember that there is no such word as "can't"

V is for the Virgin Islands

As my hair whips out behind me the warm air hits my face. I look up and see the sails billowing out in the breeze. I look over the side of the boat and see an amazing sight, a sea turtle is swimming along side us in the sparkling, crystal clear water, you can only find in the Caribbean. As the sun shines in the bright blue sky overhead I take a deep breath of the salty ocean air and I know that this, this is paradise.

So you might be wondering where this amazing "paradise" is.... it is the British Virgin Islands(the BVI) in the Caribbean- the closest to paradise you will ever find in the whole entire world!!!!!! I went there in February for one whole week (with 20 other people)! We stayed on a catamaran (a type of sail boat) for the whole week which was amazing. It was so nice and relaxing to go to sleep and hear the waves against the side of the boat, rocking me to sleep.

The BVI is made up of lots of little Islands. Throughout the week we traveled to a bunch of these islands which was really cool because each island had its own story. For example Norman Island is supposed to be where the story Treasure Island took place! While we were at the different islands my favourite thing to do was to go snorkeling!!!! I saw so many different fish it's like a whole new world, full of colour and new creatures!!!

Even though I had a great time you can't have a fabulous week without something bad happening.... So, one night I decided it would be a good idea to go for a swim in the dark. Well, I mean, we did it the first night and nothing happened. However this time no one wanted to come with me. So after assuring my parents that I would just stay around the back of the boat I jumped off the side. I had been swimming for about 10 minutes when I decided to get back on the boat. If only I had decided that like a minute earlier. I had my hand on the ladder when I felt this really weird stinging sensation on my ankle that was slowly creeping up my leg. SERIOUSLY! Out of the 20 of us I just had to be the one who got stung by a jellyfish. I jumped out of the water and trembling I let everyone see my ankle- I had this really weird red mark all around my ankle:( It was probably one of the scariest and most painful experiences of my life.

Other than my jellyfish incident it was the BEST vacation ever! It was such a great experience. I loved every second of it! The worse part (even worse then the jellyfish) was leaving paradise. You have no idea how hard it is to go from paradise to snow and school!!!!

Life Lesson: your life is never complete without at least one trip to paradise:)
